
2025 International Paper Technology Conference was Successfully Held in Shanghai
On August 14, the 2025 International Paper Technology Conference was held in Shanghai. It was co-hosted by the China Technical Association of Paper Industry, China National Pulp and Paper Research Institute Co., Ltd. (CNPPRI for short), Institut für Fasern & Papier gGmbH (PTS), and State Key Laboratory of Biobased Material and Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences), and organized by China Pulp and Paper Magazines Publisher (a subordinate body of CNPPRI) and the Green Papermaking Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences).
This conference invited 13 domestic and international experts and scholars to conduct in-depth discussions and sharing around three cutting-edge fields: “Biomass Energy Utilization”, “Biomass-Based Advanced Materials”, and “Digital & Intelligent Technology”. Aimed at injecting new impetus into the global paper industry through in-depth interdisciplinary and cross-field dialogues, the event attracted over 240 guests from nearly 20 countries and regions.


Opening Ceremony
Representatives of the hosts delivered speeches at the opening ceremony, including Cao Chunyu, President of China Technical Association of Paper Industry; Tian Chao, General Manager of CNPPRI; Martin Zahel, Head of Business Division Fibres & Compositess of Institut fur Fasern & Papier gGmbH (PTS); and Liu Yu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Qilu University of Technology. The opening ceremony was chaired by Wang Xiaoxin, Vice Chairman & Secretary-General of China Technical Association of Paper Industry.

Title: Bioenergy for Decarbonization of Pulp and Paper Industry
Core Content: The report focused on the current carbon emission status of the pulp and paper sector, analyzed the feasibility and specific pathways of biomass energy and its conversion and utilization. It provided key references for optimizing production systems and reducing energy consumption costs.

Title: Technological Breakthroughs and Intelligent Applications in Sustainable Production of Green & Low-Carbon Paper Products

Core Content: Centering on opportunities and challenges faced by European paper enterprises in carbon emission trading, he proposed energy-saving technologies and advanced systems to reduce energy consumption in paper drying processes to realize energy transition from fossil fuels to electricity.

Title: Research Insights and Progress in Green Paper and High-Value Conversion of Agricultural and Forestry Fiber Resources
Core Content: She addressed resource and environmental issues facing China’s paper industry, and discussed the development of key green paper technologies for agricultural and forestry fiber resources, green and high-efficiency separation of biomass components, and technical pathways for high-value utilization of agricultural and forestry biomass.

Title: Preparation Technologies and Applications of Cellulose-Based Functional Materials

Content: She emphasized the important value of functional cellulose
utilization under the “Dual Carbon” goals, introduced nanocellulose

analyzed the mechanisms and technologies of efficient cellulose
dissolution and regenerative reconstruction, and shared application
progress of advanced cellulose-based functional materials.

Title: Innovative Breakthroughs in High-Performance Fiber-Based Paper Structures and Functional Materials Driven by Advanced Manufacturing

as an example to analyze innovative reinforcement technologies for
high-performance fibers, as well as the innovative breakthroughs and
industrialization of a series of paper-based composite functional
materials in high-end manufacturing.

Title: Full-Quality Utilization of Agricultural Lignocellulosic Biomass—Practice in Clean Straw Pulping and Waste Resource Utilization

he proposed a circular economy model of “straw → fiber → solid-liquid
waste/breeding manure → biogas power generation combined with
solid-liquid fertilizer production” to realize resource utilization of
agricultural and forestry waste.

Title: Regulation of Functional Groups on Lignocellulosic Surfacesand Their Applications in Site Pollution Remediation
Core Content: He analyzed the synchronous construction mechanism of surface/interface functional groups of lignocellulose, and discussed the development of lignocellulose-based adsorbents and amphiphilic materials, as well as their applications in site pollution remediation (e.g., heavy metal removal, oil-containing sludge treatment).

Speaker: Dr. Zhai Shangru, Professor of Zhejiang University of Science and Technology
Title: Properties Enhancement Strategies and Potential Applications of Industrial Lignin-Derived Environmental Functional Materials
Core Content: Focusing on the intrinsic structure and carbon-rich properties of lignin, he introduced the construction strategies and application performance of lignin-based environmental functional materials for electromagnetic wave absorption, photocatalytic H₂O₂ synthesis, and water treatment.

Against the backdrop of global “Dual Carbon” goal and high-quality industrial development, 2025 CIPTE Conference served as a high-level platform for sharing advanced technologies and experiences in the paper industry. It provided references for enterprises’ low-carbon transformation, laid a solid foundation for further technology sharing and experience exchange, and will contribute to the industry’s transition toward green, low-carbon, and sustainable development.
